Hate speech alert: Borry Colley calls on Jolas to vote for Bakary Badjie, attacks Talib 

In a video clip circulating on major social media platforms, including Facebook and several online news media platforms, the former ruling APRC parliamentarian Borry Colley has openly and publicly called on his fellow ethnic Jolas to rally behind a fellow Jola, Bakary Badjie in the mayoral contest for Kanifing Municipality. He has also attacked Badjie’s main rival, the incumbent of KMC, Talib Bensouda, as ‘someone from Lebanon’. His comments have been flagged as hate speech.

Hate speech alert: NPP supporter attacks Bensouda as non-Gambian

A ruling NPP supporter identified as Jali Burama Jobarteh has made comments flagged by Malagen media monitoring as hate speech. The viral video clip has been published widely on social media and online news media. His hateful comments are directed at the mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council, Talib Ahmed Bensouda. He describes Bensouda as a non-Gambian and calls on the electorate to vote against him based on his origin.

Opposition make comeback but ruling NPP leads in parliamentary election

Datasheet: Women outmuscled in National Assembly race

After nine days of nominations, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has cleared 251 people to contest as candidates for the National Assembly elections slated for April 9. However, only 19 of them are women. Compared to 232 male contestants, female candidates represent a paltry 7.6% of the total number of candidates. Out of the 19 female candidates, 4 are incumbents - three were elected and one nominated.

Gambians renew President Barrow’s mandate ‘free and fair polls’, but opposition do not accept defeat

The Independent Electoral Commission has declared incumbent Adama Barrow as winner of the presidential elections held over the weekend.
