To Be First Is Not Enough. Women and Girls Are Not Safer Under this Law.

The Gambia became the first country to sign Africa’s landmark treaty on ending violence against women and girls. But the convention falls well short of standard protections for women and girls. Its drafting process was marked by irregularities. So, being first is not enough. The approach of “ratify now, fix it later” will not be a solution either.
